May 12th, last Saturday, was World Fair Trade Day. I had the privilege to work with the Fair Trade Boston team on helping out with the celebration. Fair Trade Boston had organized a scavenger hunt using the SCVNGR app. The game included ten locations of some great sponsors including Ben & Jerry’s, Ten Thousand Villages, Haley House Bakery & Cafe, Autonomie Project, Sudo Shoes and City Feed & Supply.
I had a great time visiting all the locations, taking photos, tweeting and checking out some great fair trade stores in & around Boston. The event then ended with all fair trade root beer float from Maine Roots and Ben & Jerry’s. It was an awesome combination for a hot day out! Thank you to all the amazing sponsors and supporters who made this event successful and run smoothly. I had a lot of fun :)
Here are some pics from the event.
I started my day off with a large cup of fair trade iced coffee from Refugee. It’s the closest store to my house where I can get Equal Exchange coffee – one of my favorites.
Then, we headed off to Ben & Jerry’s on Newbury St. One of my favorite sponsors :)
Ten Thousand Villages stores are located in Brookline, Boston and Cambridge. This one is in Cambridge by Central Square. If you are looking for gifts, this is the perfect place to go!
Haley House Cafe was another destination in the scavenger hunt.
My sister came with me to take some photos throughout the day
At City Feed & Supply, we had to find a fair trade item we’ve never seen before and take a picture to win a free fair trade coffee or a fair trade banana!
Awesome prize-winning participants! ;)
Getting some Fair Trade Root Beer Float <3
Amazing items at one of my favorite stores ever, Ten Thousand Villages. I love finding gems from Cambodia and other Southeast Asian countries here.
There are so many places in Boston to find amazing fair trade products. Next time you purchase, see if you can find the same item but with a fair trade certification. Small purchases matter :)
